Another Person Touched
Hi Joanne,
It's been a long time since we've talked but you've been in my thoughts and prayers. I wondered if you knew how much of a help you have been to me in my life. You've touched me in two very powerful ways. When I started out teaching at Holy Cross, all green and wide eyed, you were the mentor who helped get my "teaching" feet firmly planted on the ground. I'll never forget what it was like to learn from someone who was so calm, patient and motivating with her students and so very funny and extraordinarily helpful to her peers. My years at Holy Cross are some of my fondest memories and you are a big part of that Joanne.
But life moves colleagues into new directions, what with new schools being built and teacher transfers to other locations. So the time passes and we lose touch. Then, when I was diagnosed with cancer two years ago, I was very pleasantly surprised to receive an e-mail from you. You probably don't even recall what you wrote to me because it was just you being you, but I can not tell you enough how much hearing from you helped me to get out of my mental and emotional funk. Your words inspired me to put my energies into dealing with my diagnosis far more positively and from that moment on, my days and my family's days were much better. They have continued to be the best years of my life from that time on.
You are truly blessed Joanne. You have a remarkable spirit that reminds others to remember the ways that they too are blessed and for that, I thank you.
