Update On Joanne

Friday's visit

Collected Dylan, Jen & Darcy for visit to Joanne.

When we got there EveLynne Cassidy (mom of Dylan's friend Dylan) was there rubbing Jo's back. Also present were Maxine & Anica Chouinard, Maxine invited the whole crew to her place for supper after our visit. Then she and EveLynne left. Anica stayed to play scrabble with the others.

Joanne was in pretty good spirits, not quite as animated as on Monday thru Wednesday but better than Thursday evening.

She had her 'wide-eyed', surprised kind of look as we talked. Happens often right after meds.

Still has the headache and the accompanying washcloths on the forehead & neck. Said that if the headache is the result of pain meds working that it is a good trade off for the other body pains. Joanne did not agree! I don't know, but, when I see her like this, with a headache, I prefer it to how she was. However headaches are no fun!

Joanne tried to describe in detail the days events for me and had a little trouble with some parts and had to start over again several times. Understandable I guess in that the amount of meds she takes daily would probably knock a couple of Argo offensive linemen on their duffs.

Dr. Zeni visited, and I did not ask details of the medical discussion. Jo says that "Dr. Zeni is going away to his cottage for the weekend and all of next week. So I can't go home, until he comes back and checks me out" ...

After great effort and much maneuvering of the crane-thing in the ceiling and some kind of sling harness they got Joanne into the Broda chair, not really sitting up, but in a kind of reclining position. Joanne caught her breath and then said "Well is this it! After all that aren't you going to take me somewhere? So apparently the nurses and physio people or whoever trundled her out into the hall and did a couple of laps. She said she wanted to see the lobby and activity room she hears people talking about. They complied. Unfortunately when they got to the patio door it was pouring rain so that will have to be left for another day. I remarked that was quite a feat and won't it be nice to do that every day now. Joanne said "Not really, I'm not sure the results are worth going through all that every day" I'm sure that she will want to do it again two or three days down the road.

Another visitor was her good buddy Kit ... AND while Kit was there Bishop Hundt (formerly Father Peter) dropped in. Kit asked him "What are we supposed to call you now! Father, Bishop, your Excellency? Because Excellency kinda sticks in my throat." He laughed and said "any of those would do." ... So kind and thoughtful of him to visit, as yesterday (Friday) was his only free time before he goes to Rome for a Bishop's Conference. He's not returning until Sept 26, so we are very honoured that he would take the personal time to come and visit. As an aside, I know that Mike tried to contact the Bishop last week with a little difficulty due to the chain of command etc. He eventually responded to Mike with his personal email address. Pretty nifty eh?

Wes McCaully phoned from Portland (Maine, we think) and Joanne said they had a chat. I gather that Wes is not much of a conversationalist, at least can't hold a candle to a d'Entremont, but his thoughtfulness and sincerity more than made up for it. He said that when he gets his new schedule (NHL officiating) he will know better when he will be able to visit.

By this time, and after several scoldings of Darcy and the scrabble players in general, Joanne started to fade out.

She said that her mom was going to be dropping by later to be with her until Kit came back to stay the night, so our leaving then (as the children were starting to get antsy from hunger) would be ok.

I think she was asleep before we got out the door.
