from sister Jeannine

Dear Joanne,
Over the years we’ve exchanged many gifts, but there are two from you that are particularly special to me. One is a little mirrored plaque that sits on my dresser. It reads:

My Sister
As children, we had our ups and downs,
But the smiles always beat the frowns.
We shared our joys, we shared our tears,
We shared each other for many years.
You are my sister and my friend.
My love for you will never end.

The other is a pewter frame with a picture of us sitting in Grampa’s easy chair reading. I’m about 13 and you would have been around 7. These words are engraved on the frame: Sister is a sacred companion, loyal and loving, protective and supportive. She is a confidante. A keeper of secrets, a maker of memories, a weaver of dreams. Near or far, she is always there, in deed, in thought, in spirit. Sister is a very best friend.

My precious sister, you continue to give me gifts, even now. You are a blessing to me.

Love you forever,
Jeannine

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
-- John 14:27

Deep Peace of the running wave to you.
Deep Peace of the flowing air to you.
Deep Peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep Peace of the Son of Peace to you.
-- Celtic Benediction

Hi Joanne (Mrs. Daquano) and Mike,

I was just reading Mike's blog from tuesday and it brought back a fond memory that I have from school when "Mrs. Daquano" taught me in grade 7. This one just goes to show you how Joanne wouldn’t say "shit" if her mouth was full of it!!(Sorry Mrs. D I normally don't swear!)
It was just another day in music class, the day after we wrote a test. In came Mrs. Daquano, and boy she didn't look too happy! Mrs. D was carrying a stack of papers in her hands and "slammed" them down on her desk, which of course we all knew they were our marked tests. She began by asking us if we really actually studied for the test because she was not too impressed with the effort we had shown on them. Then she awarded the ones who got over 75% (which sadly I was not one them). She explained to us if we want to do well in school we have to try harder then that because those tests wouldn't get us very far. She told us that if we don't do well in the future for not trying our very best, (in her words) "WELL TOUGH BANNANAS!" "Don't come running back to me for help because I’ll just tell you I told ya so." There I am at the back of the room trying to contain my laughter as the room is in complete silence. For some reason, I think she knew because I remember her looking at me and throwing the slightest hint of a smile. I tried to hide my amusement because I didn't want to be rude, but it was pretty funny!
Anyways! I just want to let you know those words did not go unnoticed. I’ve been trying my hardest in school and I will continue to do so, and let me tell you I will never forget that music period.
Thinking about you everyday, Stay strong, and I will see you very soon!
Love your favorite student,

Jamie Knoepfli
