Yesterday
[Sunday] was a great day for Joanne. We saw her very animated and she had lots of visitors. Although that does tire Jo out she will insist you stay or make sure you plan to come back again to pay her another visit. I think that way she ensures herself another back rub or neck massage. I gather some comments have been made about Joanne's soft skin and she says it's due to all the "spa treatments" she's been receiving.
A special visitor, Mary, all the way from Vancouver came by to wish Joanne well. Mary was the director of the documentary, "Don't Stand Still" that Joanne was apart of. It absolutely thrilled Mary that Joanne recognized her right away and she was so happy to see Joanne alert and awake. Later she mentioned to me that working on that documentary was one of the greatest experience of her life. In fact she said most people on the crew felt the same way as she did and that it was mostly due to Joanne and her family. Mary is inspired by their story and continues to be moved by Joanne's spirit.
Joanne's recall of people is absolutely amazing. We're not sure if it's because she's a teacher or she's a teacher because of it, but regardless we were all in awe as she told us a story about one of the nurses. A nurse came to visit with Joanne and Joanne not only recognized her but called her by name - Maude. Joanne told her "you helped me deliver my son 12 years ago". Now that's a memory! I'm not sure if Joanne is aware of it, because Joanne is just Joanne, but she rarely lets a moment go by without making it special for someone else. Even down to enlisting and assigning tasks to people in the room visiting her so they can feel useful and that they are helping in some way.
Joanne is still suffering from a headache. A pretty consistent pain resulting from side effects of the medications but Joanne was able to sleep 7 hours last night
[Sunday].
Mike reads the blog to her everyday as well as all your cards and notes. She sees the wonderful gifts of flowers and pictures and even samples some of the chocolates and other special treats. Your continued love and support is so greatly appreciated.
Love,
Kim
