Our Song ...

Everyone knows I am a music lover and a sometimes musician. Although I enjoy many types of music and love many different artists, it is always so very easy to answer the question, "who is your favourite band?" I am glad to say it is a Canadian band, and for a lot of my friends this band has produced the "soundtrack to our lives" (to quote another Canadian artist - Tom Cochrane)

I have passed on the love of this band to my boys, (and Darcy likes SOME of their music - by forced listening!) to the point where the 30th Anniversary Tour for this band was the first concert they both have been to. Joanne shares my love for this band too. Again, not all of their music, but most of it.

There have been a few blogs containing the words to songs that describe feelings or are reminders of special times. I'm not sure how many people know that Joanne and I have a special song, "our song" by this band.

Joanne had 'Ann From Halifax Mann' (now her official full name) write the lyrics of this song in calligraphy and gave it to me for my 17th birthday (1983). It is framed, and continues to hang on our bedroom wall beside our wedding picture.

If you can, download it, and listen to the music as well as the words, it's a wonderful song. The band is Rush and the song is called "Entre Nous" ("Between Us")

"Entre Nous"

We are secrets to each other
Each one's life a novel
No one else has read
Even joined in bonds of love
We're linked to one another
By such slender threads

We are planets to each other
Drifting in our orbits
To a brief eclipse
Each of us a world apart
Alone and yet together
Like two passing ships

Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
The differences we sometimes fear to show
Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
The spaces in between
Leave room for you and I to grow

We are strangers to each other
Full of sliding panels
An illusion show
Acting well rehearsed routines
Or playing from the heart?
It's hard for one to know

We are islands to each other
Building hopeful bridges
On a troubled sea
Some are burned or swept away
Some we would not choose
But we're not always free

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD
The crazy and often seemingly unfair world we live in is captured in our favourite songs. Mike, you have shared your favourite... this is ours. I can't seem to find this lovely song by Rush but I will continue to search.

Wouldn't it be great if we could get the top 100 memorable songs from Joanne and her family and friends. Just a thought... I would treasure this as a keepsake.

My contribution from Louis Armstrong...our wedding song and a tribute to the Daquano,s

It's a wonderful world
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Oh yeah

IT IS A WONDERFUL WORLD TO HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO know and love Joanne, Mike, Dylan, Dean and Darcy

Within your BLOGS please share the titles of your favourite songs. A link to Jo and Mike's song (by Rush) would be appreciated.

Hugs to all who have sent their thoughts.

"What a Wonderful World"...This is a special song for me too and so fitting here as well! I danced with my Dad at my wedding to this song!

...and the song Joanne danced with my father on her wedding day..."What's a matter you? (Shaddap You Face)" Remember that one?!

Another bitter sweet memory...literally there was not a dry eye in the place when Joanne danced "Moon River" with her Dad on her wedding day.

Great song Mike! I have never known that the verse, framed and on your bedroom wall was from a Rush song. It really is the story of you and Joanne.
I love this blog, it's great! I hate that I haven't been able to come down this week, but this blog makes me feel connected to you both. Love Ya!
Martha
I plan to come down tomorrow(Sunday)
