Welcome to Joanne's blog.
We will be doing our best to update the blog daily keeping you aware of the current state of things. As you can imagine there are not always significant developments every day.

The fever and rapid pulse Jo had Wed. night did not develop any further and quickly came back to normal. Joanne continues to have a lot of pain in her lower back and legs and has very limited strength and movement in her right leg. She will probably be in the hospital for several more days. She will be going home when the pain is more or less under control and when full-time home nursing has been arranged.

She is in the long-term care unit of the Georgetown hospital located on the ground floor of the Bennett Center. She is receiving visitors but on a limited basis as she tires quickly.

Please feel free to add comments or a fond remembrance while you are here. Mike and Joanne review them every day and they are a real spirit lifter.

Hi Jo and Mike,

Funny I just got home from a 5 hour training walk and got Mike's email. Great idea! It's been way too long (again!) yet you've been in my thoughts a lot. Would love to pop by for a visit. Say, do you remember sitting in the square chairs by the window at Ryerson and the man with the fur hat walked by? I can still picture him and our reaction.
Godspeed,
Love, Sandy

Dear Joanne & Mike,

I'm thinking of you both and sending you lots of love. Joanne, you are so tough - I can still see the look of determination on your face as you gutted through those 60 km. Getting to know you and your family has been one of the highlights of my working life. I know you must be overwhelmed with requests for visits, but please add my name to the list. Much love, Lynn Harvey

Hi Joanne (Mrs. Daquano) and Mike,

I was just reading Mike's blog and it brought back a fond memory that I have from school when "Mrs. Daquano" taught me in grade 7. This one just goes to show you how Joanne wouldn’t say "shit" if her mouth was full of it!!(Sorry Mrs. D I normally don't swear!)
It was just another day in music class, the day after we wrote a test. In came Mrs. Daquano, and boy she didn't look too happy! Mrs. D was carrying a stack of papers in her hands and "slammed" them down on her desk, which of course we all knew they were our marked tests. She began by asking us if we really actually studied for the test because she was not too impressed with the effort we had shown on them. Then she awarded the ones who got over 75% (which sadly I was not one them). She explained to us if we want to do well in school we have to try harder then that because those tests wouldn't get us very far. She told us that if we don't do well in the future for not trying our very best, (in her words) "WELL TOUGH BANNANAS!" "Don't come running back to me for help because I’ll just tell you I told ya so." There I am at the back of the room trying to contain my laughter as the room is in complete silence. For some reason, I think she knew because I remember her looking at me and throwing the slightest hint of a smile. I tried to hide my amusement because I didn't want to be rude, but it was pretty funny!
Anyways! I just want to let you know those words did not go unnoticed. I’ve been trying my hardest in school and I will continue to do so, and let me tell you I will never forget that music period.
Thinking about you everyday, Stay strong, and I will see you very soon!
From you favorite student,

Jamie knoepfli

Greetings:
You don't know me, but I feel a strong connection with Jo Anne as I was one of the women in the "Don't Stand Still" documentary. Even though we met for a very short period of time, the power and strength of being involved with such an incredibly strong woman will stay with me for my lifetime.
Jo Anne, to you I send me prayers and I need you to know that I pray for you every day. To your family I pray as many do to give your strength and comfort at this time. I guess my message is to know that you are in my heart and I wish you peace and comfort at this difficult time.
Remember "Dont't Stand Still". I'm sure knowing a little about you Jo Anne from the documentary you are will go though this process with strength and dignity.
BLESSINGS

Hello Joanne and Mike:

I just got this sent to me, and am glad that I have the opportunity to write you. Over the years I would run into you both from time to time. Each time I saw you Joanne, you would stop and chat, and always had a big smile on your face. Each time I would walk away amazed at the kind of a woman you are. All that you are, all you have been through, and all that you have done. You are the strongest person I have ever known. You are courageous, you are a fighter, you are beautiful, and you are an inspiration to so many. I had wanted to tell you this every time I saw you, but never did. I'm glad I can tell you now, because you deserve to know. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers...Lisa Fraser

Hi Jo and Mike,
I've spent quite a bit of time reading the comments on your blog and all I can say is WOW! The support you have is awesome. You are never far from my thoughts and I wanted you to know that my Sunday School class and our church have kept you in their prayers. If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to let me know.
all my love, Diana (your cousin from N.S.)
