This Child of My Womb

This child of my womb was a special gift ordered as if by design
To be born a girl by the end of June, no hint of discomfort was mine
At the appointed time this treasure emerged, joining our family in love
Proclaiming to all with a lusty shout, “I’m here world, you’d better watch out!”

And so it was, this child of my womb became the child of our hearts
Bringing joy and laughter through growing-up years
As well as some mischief and even some tears

True to your word you soon made it known
That here was a girl with a mind of her own
You grew as a woman with beauty and grace
Your warmth and compassion showed on your face
With friends you were blessed, I’m sure they all knew
Each in their own way was important to you

From Snow Queen to Jr. Citizen of the Year
Your achievements were many, I had nothing to fear
You shot for the stars and achieved such a height
There was never a doubt you’d do what was right
You’d choose the right path in pursuit of your goals
Be the best that you could, whatever your role
Your teaching was legend, your students attest
By sending letters affirming “You were the best”

And through it all you married the love of your life
You were best friends and companions, not just husband and wife
And by and by the children came, three jewels in your crown
Your love for them, so plain to see, as each in turn joined your family tree

Sometimes I sit and ponder the things that you have done
Though the years have passed so swiftly, we still had so much fun
The times we spent together, sharing laughter, joy and tears
We really were true soul mates, you and I throughout the years
I hope I’ve been the kind of mom my mother was to me
I tried to do the best I could, to my limited degree

Our family link’s been broken, our hearts are broken too
But we’ll go on and call to mind fond memories of you
For even though you’ve left us here we know without a doubt
We’ll meet again at heaven’s door and join that link forever more
So child of my womb rest gently, heaven is your reward
Your battle now is over, you’re safe in the arms of Our Lord.
