____________________________ A meeting place for the FRIAMILY of Joanne Daquano _____________________________
It seems poignant that as we approach the end of summer, our beautiful Joanne, like a glorious flower is fading.
Joanne is sleeping most of the time and in general is completely exhausted. Except for slight head and arm motions she doesn't move and has little energy to even talk but because she is Joanne, she can and still does acknowledge family and familiar faces. At this point for Joanne there is likely a battle between the conscious and subconscious mind and keeping things as peaceful and calm for her is best. We speak to her gently about the day and who is near and what is going on around her and know she is listening and aware of her surroundings, even if she seems asleep. Our questions if any, are kept simple and to those that can be answered by a yes or no to save her valuable energy. I think she looks peaceful and quite cozy if not comfortable wrapped in a special afghan of her grandmother's. The nurse has said it's not so much that Joanne isn't in pain anymore but almost as if she isn't as aware of it or almost floating above it. For that we can be thankful.
Dylan, Dean and Darcy gathered last night at the hospital to join their father in a very special and tearful family good-bye to Joanne. Mike as the pillar of strength, with his and Joanne's family just outside the room, lead his children in prayer and allowed them each to have a special, private moment with their mother. As they left the room all eyes were red and swollen but Mike and the children were greeted by lots of loving familiar faces to give them extra hugs and share in their sorrow.
These children are simply amazing and I know they'll be fine. Yes, there may be some bumps along the way but as I said last night, "I think their driveway is clean!"
Love to you all!
Kim
