a W2EBC walker ...

I have been aware of Joanne's story since the documentary. Having been involved in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer since the first year, you notice that there are certain names that appear on the boards year after year. They become legends.

I will be thinking of Joanne and her family as I pack my bag tonight and arrange to meet my team (Cosmic Girls) tomorrow at registration. And you can be sure that with every step I take this weekend I will be thinking of my incredible father Tom who I lost to cancer 10 years ago, and will be proud to take every step with 2 spirited breast cancer survivors.

Dylan, Dean and Darcy are a few years younger than I was when I learned my father was not going to live. I believe in the strength of kids when they are surrounded by love - and this blog is a testament to the unending love that seems to thrive in this family.

As I said in my father's meoriam this year:

"A grateful, warm adieu!
I, with a much-indebted tear,
Shall still remember you!
All-hail then, the gale then,
Wafts me from thee, dear shore!
It rustles and whistles-
I'll never see thee more!"
- Robbie Burns -

I am sorry I do not have remembrances ... simply understanding.

Best wishes,
Rhonda Starr

Comments:
I too am heading out for the Walk today with the Caledon Walkie-Talkies. Thank you so much to everyone who has taken on this challenge, or supported us on our way.

I know what will be at the forefront of all of our minds this weekend. Remember, when we are feeling tired, when we develop blisters on our feet, as we face yet another hill to climb, when we crawl into a tiny tent for some rest or if the rain pours down on us (hopefully not!)...we have seen the alternative.

We will make you proud, Jo. You motivate us beyond belief. We will also keep up our fight for a cure.

Lotsa Love!

A mere year since the walk with the Hooters. My memories of that weekend are strong and as I was walking the dog early this morning vivid images of Joanne and Dean came. Walking into the stadium after the walk on Sunday with Joanne by my side will be one of my strongest memories. I know she will be walking beside me forever.

Love to all.
